SUNFLOWERS AND LAVENDER

"Sunflowers and Lavender" is a painting of two of the most beautiful flowers in Provence.  Sometimes you are lucky enough to see them growing together in a field.  Because the colors are opposite each other on the color wheel they "sing" when used together.  

 

"Lavender Blue" is a scene from Provence, with it's glorious lavender fields.  This painting in pastel is 8.5 x 11.5", done on 400 UArt paper.  If you've ever had the chance to go to Provence, I hope you were able to see some of these fields in bloom!

 "Lavender in Provence" is an 8 x 10" pastel on LaCarte pastel paper.  This scene was painted from two photographs taken in Provence.  I wanted the lavender fields, of course, but love all the little villages in France and wanted to represent one of them.  Hope you enjoy this scene--perhaps reminiscent of a trip you may have taken.

This end of day watercolor landscape is painted on 140# Lanaquarelle paper.  It's 9 1/4" wide by 6 1/4" high.  I hope you can feel the cool sand contrasting with the warmth of the light at the horizon.

Queen Anne's Lace is an 8 x 8 pastel on UArt paper.  Many people view this flower as a weed as it grows rampantly in meadows and along roadsides.  But I love it and like to incorporate it in bouquets from my garden for a light, airy look.

"Just an Apple"

This 8 x 8" pastel painting is that ripe, juicy apple that you're always looking for when you go apple picking in an orchard.  You really need that kind of source when you're looking for an image to paint, because you hardly every find a beautiful apple in the grocery store that still has a nice stem and leaves, and that contributes so much to the composition and interest.  I really loved the shadow the leaf was throwing on this apple.  Check my website to see where this is being offered for sale.  Thanks for looking!

 A simple pear painting perfect for your kitchen or dining area. Wonderful seasonal decor. Lucious, ripe pear ready to be picked. Pastel just seemed to be the perfect medium for this piece.  It's 8 x 8" on LaCarte pastel paper.

WATERCOLOR~ SUNFLOWER DUO

 

"Sunflower Duo" is an impressionistic watercolor of sunflowers grown in my own yard!  This piece is 9.5" high and 7.5" wide, painted on 140# Arches watercolor paper. It was so much fun to see these grow, and they withstood one very windy storm!  

Dune Path

It's later in the afternoon at the beach and the light is warm on the path through the dunes.  From the top you can see the sailboats getting in their last sail for the day.  A serene scene.  Pastel, 9 x 11", done on pastel mat.  Available through my Etsy Shop or DailyPaintworks.

Yellow Barn

This pastel painting depicts a barn in a nearby town set on a hill, surrounded by fields.  The afternoon sun is falling on the front of the barn and the field dotted with lovely yellow flowers.  I'd like to take a walk here!

Daffs for Spring

"Daffs for Spring" is an 8 ax 10 oil on canvas, depicting some of the first flowers to bloom in my perennial garden every Spring.  It is done in a loose style, although still representational.  I love the way the daffodils look this way and that, and seem to follow the sun.  Hope you enjoy this painting!

Grapes for Harvest

This watercolor painting reminds me of the beautiful vineyards in Italy and France.  You see them stretching out over undulating hills, often with a rose bush planted at the beginning of the row of vines.  This is painted on acid free watercolor paper with Daniel Smith watercolors and is approx. 8.5 x 10.5".  It was fun, but challenging, to paint this subject.  I needed a glass of wine afterward!

Blue Door #21

Beautiful doorways in Italy are a common scene.  This one, in a beautiful old stone building was enhanced with gorgeous potted shrubs and flowers, just waiting to greet you.  This watercolor is 8.25 x 10.25", painted on Strathmore acid free watercolor paper, with Daniel Smith watercolors.  If you can't make a trip to Italy, you can visit with this little painting.

Poppies

"Poppies" is a small watercolor, 7" x 10", float mounted on a neutral dark gray mat.  The mat measures 11 x 14" for ease of framing.  This is a casual piece showing the rhythm of poppies arranged across the watercolor paper.

Light Along the Trail

A recent walk in our near nature preserve inspired this painting.  Sunlight filters through the trees and catches coppery leaves, still hanging on despite the onset of winter.  That's tenacity for you!  This 8.75 x 11" pastel comes matted to 15 x 17".

Autumn Favorites

"Autumn Favorites" is an 8 x 10" oil painting of a unusual spotted pumpkin and two red, ripe apples. A friend gifted me this pumpkin and with it's lovely color and spots and curly stem, it just had to be painted.  I paired it with two red apples on a simple cloth.

Lavender Fields

Who doesn't love the beauty and scent of a field of lavender?  This lavender field is in France and I have painted it in pastel.  It is 6 x 6" and done on LaCarte pastel paper.  Hope you enjoy this little piece of summer remembrance.

Pumpkins for Sale

"Pumpkins for Sale" is a watercolor painting, 10.25" x 14" done on Arches Acid Free watercolor paper.  It was from a photo of a large display of beautiful pumpkins on a local farm just up the road.  The bright orange display, along with the yellow mums tucked underneath, were just perfect for the Autumn, Halloween and Thanksgiving!
