Always a Good Day for a Ride

This watercolor painting is of my husband's Harley Davidson Softail--every year I paint something for his business Holiday card and thought this would be unique! It can be hard for bikers to put away their motorcycles for the winter--they keep hoping for just one more beautiful day for a last ride of the season. This is a bit extreme, but hope you think it's fun.

The painting is 9 x 12, done on Canson watercolor paper. I guess the genre for this has to be "motorcycle art"!

Dappled Sunlight

About a month ago, as the weather was just starting to turn cooler, I brought home a lovely bouquet of sunflowers. Arranged in a vase, I set them by the french door in the sunlight, and captured some photos that could possibly be paintings. I particularly liked the photo which was the starting point for this painting--it was receiving dappled sunlight and there were beautiful darks at the bottom of the flower. I made this sunflower the "star" and quieted down the two in the background. This watercolor painting is 8.5" x 11", done on Arches 140# acid-free watercolor paper. It is double matted to approximately 14.5" x 17".

Two Red Apples

  Who doesn't love the fall season with all the beautiful apples being harvested? These were two luscious apples that escaped pie-making for a setup. This is a small oil painting, 8 x 10" done on canvas. I love doing fruit and vegetable paintings from a still life set up, and red is always fun to paint!

Shimmering Lights

"Shimmering Lights" is a real departure from my normal genre in watercolor. It's a small piece, about 5 x 7", which I matted to about 10 x 12". It's a moody, atmospheric painting, depicting that special twilight time between sunset and night. I liked the calmness of the still water and the indication of what could be a shore town or lakeside community. I sometimes attempt this type of painting in oil where you can also capture that luminous quality, but I really enjoyed doing this small piece. Hope you like it too--someone did, as it recently sold!

Apples and Basket

Apple season is on the way...this oil painting from a still-life setup was done with apple picking, apple pie making, and apple eating in mind! Several apples spill onto a soft white napkin, leaving one reticent straggler in the basket. This piece is 11 x 14, painted on canvas. The sides are not painted, so it's best used in a frame.

Out of the Bag-Help the Children of Africa Challenge

This is the painting I am auctioning off for the DailyPaintWorks Challenge "Help Feed the Children of Africa". DPW Auctions is a site I've joined andI have participated in the past, through this site, in a Challenge to help the people of Japan with their earthquake disaster.

The paintings are auctioned off and the artist will donate all the proceeds from the sale (minus the shipping cost) to either the American Red Cross or the World Vision Organization. When my painting sold for the Japan Challenge, I donated to the American Red Cross and they provided a "receipt" of your donation, which was then shared with the purchaser of the painting. You can specify a cause when you make a donation.

It is my hope that all children will be fed healthy meals each day and be able to go to bed at night without being hungry. Please take a look at all the paintings being auctioned and see if perhaps one might be just for you.

Cherries Jubilee

Cherries have a lot of character! I set up this still life and just put a handful of cherries on the napkin. I arranged them slightly into groups and made sure their stems were "talking" to each other. I feel the cherry on the far right has just had enough conversation... and is chilling out.
