Fresh Snow

Ok, I know it's too early to mention snow--except of course, for skiers and snowboarders--but I sat down a few days ago to do a small watercolor and this came to mind so I went with it.  The inspiration comes from the many barns in our area, which used to be a large farming community.  Many are gone now, but there are still some lovely ones and this is a tribute to them.  Winter here tends to give us beautiful sunsets so I incorporated that into this painting.  This painting on watercolor board is 9.5" wide by 6.5" high and is matted to 11 x 14".  Hope you enjoy it. 

Barn Lights

"Barn Lights" is a watercolor of a local barn in the evening hour..  Days are shorter and lights come on earlier casting a golden glow on the snow outside.  Hope you enjoy this reminder of beautiful winter scenes to come.  This painting is on Arches 140# watercolor paper and measures 9.5" wide by 3.75" high.

French Farmhouse ~ Loire Valley

Traveling through the French countryside just makes my head swivel!  Everywhere you turn there are wonderful old buildings, farms and fields and flowers in glorious bloom. This little village was in the Loire Valley and very near to a French bed and breakfast where we stayed.  It's fun to wander a bit in the area and see how many pictures I can take!  This is an oil on canvas board, 6 x 6" in size.  I hope you enjoy this glimpse of the Loire Valley countryside.

Cape Cod ~ Blue Rowboat

This watercolor painting was done from a photo I took just after crossing the Bourne Bridge onto Cape Cod, MA.  I remember the place because I had my husband stop the car on the side of the road so I could run across, and a nice policeman asked us to move along.  Why is it all the wonderful shots are always in inconvenient places?  Anyway, this is the second version I've done of this scene and it still appeals to me as such a "moment" in Summer.  Hope you enjoy it too. 

Sunflower Smile

Sunflowers!  One of my favorites to paint and have in the house in a bouquet.  I just think they have SO much personality with their big faces and tilting heads.  This watercolor was painted on 140# Arches watercolor paper and measures 7 7/8" wide by 9 3/4" high.  It was recently juried into the Connecticut Watercolor Society Show at the Silpe Gallery at the University of Hartford School of Art.  Hope you enjoy this painting...

Hurd House

This painting shows a portion of a beautiful historic house in Pennsylvania called the Hurd House.  I loved the play of the orange tiger lilies against the strong blue sky reflection in the window.  So many of these homes have the interesting textures of stone and stucco, a favorite of mine.  Tiger lilies are in blooming now in our area and always make a spectacular show of color. 
This painting is done on Arches 300# watercolor paper.

Maine - Quiet Bay

This was a lovely little bay area in Maine--I honestly can't remember the town--but it was within an hour's drive of Portland.  If anyone recognizes it, please let me know!  The pastel painting itself is 11" x 5.25", but is framed in a slightly distressed dark brown 2" frame, making it 15" x 9" approximately.  I have used a special "water white" glass which shows color accurately and reduces the reflection.

The photo inspiration for this painting was taken on a weekend trip to Maine to visit our daughter and she loves to take us to beautiful spots to enjoy the scenic views of the water and Maine landscape.  This was late afternoon and the long shadows coming from the west indicate the soon-to-be setting sun.  Hope you enjoy this piece and it takes you on a little vacation of your own.  ..and Happy July 4th!
