Laden Bough

SOLD

This watercolor painting is done in a vignette style with all edges of the paper being touched, but in varying amounts.  It is a very loose and free painting, with lots of sketched in leaves left unpainted.  Even the peaches have a soft, fuzzy look, with little detail. It was done very quickly and I liked the immediacy of it.  It's approx. 15.5" high and 9.5" wide.  Hope you enjoy this one!

Garden Niche II - Oil

SOLD

Garden Niche II  is an oil painting from a beautiful spot in Sarlat, France, in the Dordogne Valley.  It was a lovely sunny morning and breakfast was being served on the terrace of our bed and breakfast.  I loved the shadows on the clay pot and the texture of the stone of this very old structure.  The flowers were a bright spot of color set against the neutral stones.  This is painted on a 10" x 10" canvas.

Hope it reminds you of a sunny summer morning!

Beauty in White

This painting is very different for me, but I have to say I really enjoyed the challenge.  I was taking a wonderful watercolor class and this was the subject.  I loved the grace of the swan and the reflections in the water were really interesting to paint.  Hope you enjoy this piece--it's painted on 300# Arches watercolor paper with transparent watercolors.   I'ts roughly 1/4 sheet, about 14" wide by 10" high.

Waterlily

This was a new subject for me, but I really liked the waterlily nestled on that broad dark leaf and the inky blue/black of the water.  Lots of contrast!  This painting is 11 3/4" wide by 9 3/4" high,  matted with an acid-free 3" double mat and mounted onto acid-free foamcore.

Hope you enjoy viewing it.

Sunflower II

Sunflower II

I know, another sunflower!  Well, the season for them is short so I like to paint them while they're in bloom.
This sunflower was actually up in Westerly, Rhode Island, at Watch Hill.  I really liked the shadow being cast on the center of the flower and it was a little more dramatic than some with the sun full on.
Hope you enjoy it!

Secret Garden

When my children were small my mother, an avid gardener, would let them come with her  to her "Secret Garden", which she had terraced out of the hillside in her back yard.  There were little paths with flowers on each side and places to just sit and enjoy the view.  This is a painting of my own back yard, which has flowers planted in her memory.  My little garden statue, tucked away under the large peony blossoms, always makes me think of that special place.  Gardens are good for the spirit.

Purple Haze

 SOLD

Softly shifting light
reveals grass and dune and sea
today?  Purple Haze

I've done a lot of sunsets in this style, but this is a morning painting.   The sky has the delicate colors of sunrise and soft purples cover the grasses and shadows on the sand.  This watercolor measures 9.75" wide by 6.75" high, but is double matted to 11 x 14".  The mat colors I'm using are Whisper White and Cloud.  I chose them for the color, but loved the names, which seemed to go so well with this painting.

This piece is done on 140# Arches watercolor paper, with transparent Winsor & Newton watercolors.  The colors in the actual painting are more intense in the sky, with some beautiful peaches to complement the purples.  Hope you enjoy!
